STEWARTS FERRY HOME
In the Floodplain...
Surrounded by trees and disconnected from the nearby neighborhood the site offers a wooded retreat from Nashville city life. Disconnecting the spaces from the land, the home's elevated platform defines the exterior pool space and lifts the home out of the flood zone.
Through articulating form and function the home identifies the varying spaces and internal uses. The broad, primary volume located in the front defines the major spaces including the living, dining, kitchen, and master suite. These major spaces focus out over the broad side of the pool platform. This volume is then intersected by the home's secondary spaces. The two volumes meet at the home's major circulation and monumental stair. This intersection is then highlighted on the front facade with a wood accent and horizontal openings bringing light into the stair.
